After more than 30 years of performing same-day denture procedures in Bonner Springs, I’ve heard one question more than any other:
“What exactly is going to happen to me that day?”
It’s a fair question. Having teeth extracted and new dentures placed in a single appointment sounds intense. But for the vast majority of our patients, the reality is far more comfortable — and far more exciting — than they expected.
Here’s exactly what happens, from the moment you walk in to the moment you see your new smile.
What Makes Same-Day Dentures Possible
Most dental offices that offer dentures send your impressions to an outside lab. That adds 4–6 weeks of waiting — weeks you spend without teeth, eating soft foods, and often feeling self-conscious in social situations.

At Dr. Hartman Dentistry, our dental lab is right here in our Bonner Springs office. Our lab technicians work alongside our clinical team, which means your dentures can be fabricated and fitted the same day. I’ve been refining this process for over three decades — same-day dentures aren’t a side service we occasionally offer. They’re our signature specialty.
Step 1 — Morning: Impressions & Planning
You’ll arrive in the morning. We start with a real conversation — I want to understand your goals, your concerns, and what you’re hoping for from your new smile.
Then we take precise impressions of your mouth. We’ll work together to select your tooth shade, shape, and size. This step matters far more than people realize. Your dentures should look like your teeth — the ones you had in your best years — not generic, one-size-fits-all replacements.

“I was worried my dentures would look fake. Dr. Hartman spent real time helping me pick the right shade and shape. When I saw the final result, I actually cried — they looked like me, just better.” — Patricia H., Wyandotte County
Step 2 — Our Lab Gets to Work
Once we have your impressions, our lab team begins fabricating your custom dentures. You’re welcome to relax in our office, step out for lunch, or run nearby errands. We’ll contact you when it’s time to return.
This is the step that sets us apart from every other dental practice in the area. While your dentures are being made on-site, there’s no shipping delay, no communication lag with an outside lab, no wondering if the shade is exactly right. Our technicians are steps away from our clinical team.

Step 3 — Afternoon: Gentle Extractions
When you return, we perform your extractions. I use local anesthesia to ensure you feel no pain — only the pressure and movement that is completely normal.
If you prefer sedation, we offer:
- Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) — mild relaxation, wears off quickly
- Oral sedation — deeper relaxation, requires a driver
I’ve refined these extraction techniques over four decades. We work efficiently and carefully, always with an eye toward preserving as much bone structure as possible for the best long-term denture fit.

Step 4 — Your New Smile
Immediately after extractions, your new custom dentures are placed. I make any necessary chairside adjustments to ensure proper fit, bite, and comfort before you leave.
Then you walk out smiling. Same day.
The psychological impact of this moment is something I never take for granted. I’ve watched patients see their reflection and weep with relief. I’ve watched people who stopped laughing openly — who covered their mouths in photos — suddenly smile without thinking about it. That’s what this work is really about.

The Healing Period
Your new dentures will feel different at first — that’s completely normal. Your gums need time to heal and will change shape over the following weeks.
You’ll return for follow-up appointments as your mouth heals. Typically 6–8 weeks after placement, we perform a reline — adjusting the underside of your dentures to match the contours of your fully healed gums. This is included in your care plan.
Are You a Candidate?
Most patients needing full or partial extractions are excellent candidates for same-day dentures. The best way to know for certain is a consultation. I’ll evaluate your oral health, review your medical history, and give you my honest recommendation — no pressure, no sales tactics.
You might be a particularly strong candidate if you:
- Are losing multiple teeth or need full-arch extractions
- Have a job or social life where appearance matters
- Want to avoid the difficulty of being toothless during the healing period
- Have been putting off necessary dental work because you feared going without teeth
